The symptom
- Product pages have a title, price and one or two sentences copied from the supplier.
- AI answers cite competitor pages that explain who the product is for, what fits it, and how it ships.
- Google shows the same generic description as 20 other shops.
Why it matters
When someone asks "which grow light for a 60×60 tent?", the assistant looks for pages that state coverage area, wattage, spectrum, and price plainly. A page with those facts gets quoted; a page with "High quality LED lamp" does not.
Duplicate supplier text also collapses in Google: only one copy ranks, rarely yours.
How to check it yourself
- Count words on your ten best-selling product pages (excluding navigation). Under ~150 unique words is thin.
- Ask ChatGPT or Perplexity a real buyer question about a product you sell and see whose page is cited and why.
How to fix it
- Answer-ready template for each key product: (1) one-paragraph plain summary — who it is for and the main benefit; (2) a specs table (dimensions, weight, power, materials, compatibility, what is in the box); (3) a "Good for / not for" list; (4) delivery & returns block with real times and costs to your main markets; (5) a 3–5 question FAQ using the words buyers use; (6) a short comparison with the next model up/down.
- Write in the buyer’s language(s); keep the first 300 characters meaningful because they become the snippet.
- Mark the FAQ up with FAQ schema only if the questions are visible on the page.
- Start with the 20 products that drive most revenue; templates for the rest.
